Twisty Roads Rally Group presents:

The Road Not Taken

August  2 - 3,  2008

Presented with the cooperation and assistance of  Oregon Rally Group

A Pacific Coast Challenge international rally championship event

A Sports Car Club of America sanctioned event

The Road Not Taken is a challenging all-night 250-mile TSD rally adventure on smooth, twisty, unpaved roads in Oregon's Coast Range.  The event is carefully designed to challenge experts and yet be greatly enjoyed even by first-time competitors driving ordinary street vehicles in good condition.  A TSD rally is not a race—instead, it tests the ability of a driver and navigator team to precisely maintain specified average speeds to arrive at unannounced checkpoints precisely on time.  On wiggly unpaved mountain roads at night, that task is particularly challenging.  Instructions will be mileaged and offer easy route following for all contestants.

"The adventure aspect was off the scale!"
"WHAT A BLAST!!!"

The award-winning The Road Not Taken is renowned for incredible roads, great rallying, excellent organization, and quality production.  In 1998, The Road Not Taken inaugurated the popular Pacific Coast Challenge international rally series, and also brought SCCA's National Road Rally Championship to Oregon for the first time in decades—winning for Oregon Region the SCCA National Road Rally Board's 1998 Regional Achievement Award.

"The whole show was laced with personality."
"Absolutely the best executed event in The Northwest."

The Road Not Taken primarily travels Siuslaw National Forest and Bureau of Land Management roads, authorized under special use permits.   The event's Headquarters will be in McMinnville, Oregon at Red Lion Inn & Suites, more or less across the street from Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (home of The Spruce Goose).  If you will need a room at the inn, some are being held aside for a limited time for The Road Not Taken participants.  Be sure to speak the magical words The Road Not Taken when you make the reservations.  Get your reservations in nowdon't underestimate the lack of vacancies in wine country during August weekends.   Reservations can be made by calling Red Lion Inn & Suites, McMinnville, Oregon, at 503-472-1500, or on web at http://redlion.rdln.com/HotelLocator/HotelOverview.aspx?metaID=50

"My all-time favorite rally activity!"
"Rallying is probably supposed to be serious, but I have never laughed so much in my life!"

It is intended that The Road Not Taken be a very well organized adventure that contestants will remember as a Damned Fine Event.  The organizers don't like needless hardships, unnecessary coddling, or organizational shortcomings: they cherish rallies that leave them thoroughly wrung-out yet excited, and that's what they intend to offer you!  You will not be bored.  All entrants will receive a mini-plaque to commemorate their participation in this event.  If you complete the entire event within prescribed challenging limits then you will receive an accomplishment award.

"This will always be my perfect introduction to rallying."
"Twas a night to remember and a Damn Fine Event."

Contestants will leave Red Lion Inn at 2-minute intervals beginning at 7:00 pm Saturday.  Many hours of exciting rallying will take contestants to a much welcomed break at Spirit Mountain Casino.  Then, many more hours of brisk, twisty rallying will return contestants to Red Lion Inn at about 5:00 am Sunday for recuperation, tale-swapping, scoring, and awards.

"WHEEEE!"
"Absolutely the most amazing roadsboth dirt and paved—that I've ever seen."

Most of the route will be on twisty, unpaved, relatively smooth roads in the mountainous terrain of Oregon's Siuslaw National Forest, authorized under Special Use Permit.  In all the world you will surely not find another rally route as consistently smooth and persistently twisty.

"Wickedly fun roads!"
"The most challenging, best run, best supported event on the West Coast!!"

Entry fee is $105 U.S. for a driver/navigator team.  Paid entry and pre-registration must be received before July 28, 2008.  Early entry will be appreciated, and will be helpful in your preparations.  Packets containing detailed information will be mailed after paid registration is received.  Entry fee is fully refundable until you complete final registration at the start of the event.  On-line entry is available at http://twistyroads.net/trnt.

"AWESOME!!"
"This was one night I'll truly remember with an ear-to-ear grin that just won't go away."

Road legal vehicles in good condition are required.  Warning triangles, first-aid kit, tow rope, and fire extinguisher are required.  Entrant's packet will include full  details.  Driving and navigator lights will be quite useful, and you will be lost without a functional odometer.

"This rally is WAY different!"
"After all that we'd heard, we came with very high expectations—and TRNT exceeded them!"

Competition will be offered in the standard SCCA classes: Equipped, Limited, Stock (based on your rally computing equipment, if any).  Additional classes and awards may also be presented.

"Once again an OUTSTANDING event!!"
"The most fun I ever had sitting in the navigator seat."

Since 1995, a key element of The Road Not Taken's organizational excellence has been the incredible communications network operated by McMinnville Amateur Radio Club for the event's administration, scoring, and safety communications.  MARC members staff each checkpoint for communications, and also comprise a large portion of our well-trained checkpoint workers.  MARC is on web at http://www.marcwireless.org

"It was, by far, the best single night of my entire life."
